  • To become a community use facility throughout the year

  • To be built on a theme of Remembrance and Reconciliation

About us

The Colne Engaine War Memorial Project was set up in 2013 by local resident Spike Townsend, after he was struck by the absence of a memorial to the fallen of both world wars within the village. He discussed this with some fellow villagers, and with the impending 100 year anniversary looming it was decided that this would be the right time to source funds to build a lasting and accessible memorial within the village.

A Committee was formed to achieve this aim. The Committee fervently believed that this should be a community project and so was formed of representatives from the Parish Council, British Legion, Youth Club, Parochial Church Council, the Village School and the Parish Magazine.

As of Winter 2016, the finished memorial has been used by many villagers and local groups for community activities.
